I started this blog in August 2017 as a continuation of my thesis/capstone project work. However, my writing took a backseat as I became directly involved with Tent City and other homeless outreach efforts in Fall 2017 and Winter 2017/18. Being involved is great, but taking the time to reflect on what is happening and has happened is also important — hence the re-launch here and simultaneous new launch at Medium.com/lastleastlost.
Unfortunately, it has become harder to live unsheltered in Baltimore because the city has closed the larger encampments and squashed efforts for new encampments to form. In Baltimore City’s defense, they are providing an alternative: beds in a couple of selected non-profit facilities and programs. However, these programs are not “one-size-fits-all” and are meant more for individuals, not for couples and families currently living together outside.
